Factors interfering with pigmentation uptake and expression
Genetic Factors
The skin deposition function of different breeds of broilers was different.
Generally speaking, yellow-feathered broilers had stronger deposition capacity of yellow pigment.
Breeding environment
Light can promote yellow pigmentation, but the absorption of pigmentation is poor in dark environments;
The feed intake of broilers in high temperature environments decreases, so the intake of lutein is insufficient, and high temperature will cause oxidation of lutein and oil̶
Health condition
Coccidiosis invades the intestinal epithelial cells, the serum lutein level decreases by 88%, and the intestinal tract decreases by 76%;
Liver and pancreas lesions occur, bile acid secretion is insufficient, and lutein absorption is reduced.
Mycotoxins
Feed mildew seriously affects skin pigmentation.
Studies have shown that 0.004ppm mycotoxins can significantly hinder the digestion and deposition of lutein in chickens;
When coccidia and mycotoxins exist at the same time, the utilization rate of lutein is only 23%.
